Welcome to CD Dog Training »
The key to having a well-behaved dog and a harmonious relationship is to understand our canine companions and knowing how to relate and communicate with our dogs in a manner that will promote willing co-operation. Training dogs in a positive manner gives us a common language and therefore reduces confusion and stress and at the same time strengthens the bond between dog and owner.
At CD Dog Training, modern dog behaviour science is very much at the heart of all training. Our understanding of dogs has progressed enormously in the last couple of decades, much due to the dedicated work of scientists. Unfortunately, this new insight is not always reflected in some of the training methods seen today. Comparisons with wolves and outdated theories of dominance and hierarchy are still sadly all too common. At best, these methods are ineffective and at worst, they amount to bullying and cruelty.
My training methods are in accordance with the code of conduct of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) of which I am a member since 2004. Since then I have also trained with a dedicated team of highly respected dog behaviourists at COAPE (Centre of Applied Pet Ethology), gaining an Advanced Level 3 Diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour and Training. I also undertake regular shorter courses on dog behaviour and training always striving to continue learning more about these great animals.
